I thought the pearl was a pretty good book. The authors name is John Steinbeck. I liked the book because I love reading tragedy's. I love it because for some reason I don’t like happy endings or happy books. This was the perfect type of book for me. It would have been better if the author would of maybe made some more people die too. I know that sounds harsh but that’s the kind of person I am.
I realized that when I was reading that when they found the pear something bad was going to happen. Almost no book goes to the middle without something bad or interesting happening. That’s when I realized when they found the pearl something bad would probably happen. I was right.
One of the things I was right about was that something bad would happen. The first bad thing that happened was when they found the pearl and then the shop keeper people said that the pearl was useless, but then they tried to steal it, so then Kino knew that they only said that it was worthless because of that fact he was Native American. This book was really written to be a tragedy.
The only thing Kino wanted was for his son to grow up and have an education, but that wasn’t possible because all the people were judging him by the color of his skin. First the doctor wouldn’t treat the baby because he only treats white rich people. Then he does because then they find the pearl? Isn't that racist? I think so.
The last thing that happened is when the pearl buyers tried to steal the pearl, Kino, Juana and Kyotito had to run for it. When they did so, in the end the baby, (Kyotito) got shot in the head and was left in the cave. Kino and Juana acted like they were strong and didn’t even care that they're only child was now gone forever. I bet that they were both dying inside.
